Ala Uddin Ahmad

Chief Executive Officer, MetLife Bangladesh

 

 

Mr. Ala Ahmad is the Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Bangladesh. With more than 25 years of experience in finance, strategy, and general management, he has held senior leadership roles across Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and regional Asia businesses. Throughout his career, he has led businesses at different stages of growth and transformation, creating impact in the financial services sector across multiple markets.

Mr. Ahmad joined MetLife Bangladesh in 1999 and subsequently served as Financial Controller for Bangladesh and Nepal, Chief Financial Officer for MetLife South Asia, and Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Nepal. He later moved to Malaysia as Vice President and Head of Strategy, Business Planning and Transformation at AmMetLife Insurance Berhad and also served as Chief of Staff and Head of Strategy for MetLife’s Strategic Growth Markets in Asia. In 2019, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Hong Kong and a member of its Board of Directors before returning to Bangladesh in 2021 to assume his current role. 

In addition to his responsibilities at MetLife, Mr. Ahmad serves as Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) and is a Member of the Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF). He is also a former Director of the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). 

Mr. Ahmad holds a Master’s degree from the National University, Bangladesh. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA) from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), and an alumnus of the National University of Singapore Business School. He has completed executive leadership programs at Harvard Business School and is a Fellow of LOMA and the Financial Services Institute, USA.
